Monster: Harpy
Description: Half bird, half human. They are normally passive, peaceful, and even afraid of people. But if you go anywhere near their nest they become vicious and attack in self defense. They have sharp talons, very strong wings, and sometimes even weapons from the last human they killed. Harpies are a mostly female race, with a 8:1 ratio of females over males. Harpies are smaller than humans standing about 4 feet tall on average, and their bodies are more fragile since they do need smaller sizes and weaker bones to fly. Although, they are also much faster than a human.
Estimated Power: 21 (average. Like humans they can grow stronger, learn magic, and pick up equipment to use which would make them more powerful)

Special Loot (if any): Some scientists hunt for harpy eggs to research the effects of raising harpies in a human culture from birth. So the eggs could be sold to those scientists. Harpy wings are also really pretty, they are very much sought after for clothing and carry some slight magical properties to them. The feathers seem to slightly enhance magic. Although there is also a lot of people who protest killing harpies since they are generally a friendly and passive race. They only attack people who threaten their nest, and otherwise they don't bother people.

Harpy Society: Harpies speak in a language that can only be spoken by harpies, it also has no written form so communicating with them is not easy. But they do have the capacity to learn and speak human languages if exposed to it long enough or taught. Some harpies do actually live in human or elven cities and have adapted to that city's culture, but those are very rare. Most harpies live with the other harpies, up in the mountains with their nests. Their usual culture is pretty much the same as that of a normal bird, although they also support each other and work as a community to gather food, raise their young, and protect the nest. In the harpy culture the focus is largely taken off the individual, you are a part of the group, everything you do affects the group, you are expected to help the group not hurt it. If you are frequently hurting the group, failing to help, or unable to contribute, you will eventually be kicked out.

The leader of a group of harpies is the female who has found a mate. Despite the scarcity of males, relationships are strictly monogamous. The male who is the mate of the leader of the group shares leadership but does not have as much power as the female. The male typically is required to stay at the nest and not go hunting or engage in fights unless absolutely necessary.
